A Little Gardening is a collaborative video project by Tsz Wai Pun and Brandon Forrest Frederick, created during their stay at the SIM Residency Programme in Reykjavík, Iceland.
Using a deck of cards found in a local thrift store as the starting point, the narrative unfolds to explore the background and practice of English photographer, John Hinde. Known for his nostalgic aesthetics of British and Irish leisure spots of the 60s-70s, he would meticulously stage his images while concealing things he did not want to be seen. With a repetitive and hypnotic visual structure and a fragmented spoken narrative in the background, A Little Gardening explores staging as a manipulation of reality and beauty while reflecting on truth, nostalgia, and censorship in images.
